On 14th June 1941 over 15,000 Latvian civilians were deported en masse out of Latvia to Soviet concentration camps in Siberia (including some relatives of mine). Thousands of Latvia's military, law enforcement officials, and heads of state were executed. This is a protest piece about the atrocities of that night, as well as throughout the soviet occupation of Latvia. I love art where you see an image instantly when you look at it, but as you peer closer, you see there is so much more detail to be found, which is what I've tried to do here. Done as my major assignment for studio art at final year of high school. Greylead pencil on A0 size cartridge paper (quite big!)
